Alexander Technique Applied to Centering Prayer

A one day workshop given by Jacqueline Evans, an Alexander Technique teacher who has found that Alexander principles profoundly deepen the experience of centering prayer. She will be teaching techniques for rediscovering your inherent ease and freedom, thus helping to calm breathing and quieten your mind.

Jacqueline writes: “Centering prayer has been transformational for me in my spiritual life. But in my time before Alexander Technique I found it difficult - my thinking would run away with me, so that, far from being present, I would often find myself miles away, and rather than self-emptying I would be rigid with resistance and tensions. The clinging, I realised, was in my body just as much as in my mind and emotions.

I now see how much our minds tend to lead us away from the present and how reconnecting with our bodies brings us back to the here and now. Also, I find that, with very old deep habits of tension, I sometimes think I have let go, yet am still holding on in my body. The reality is that the body knows deeply the language of letting go, and together we will be looking at ways of allowing the release of tension through some of the principles of Alexander Technique.

We will be exploring some questions such as: How can we release our whole being into unconditional acceptance? How can we simply allow ourselves to be present? Where does love and acceptance go when we ‘try’ to still (control?) ourselves to meditate?”

Led by: Jacqueline Evans

Please arrive for 9.30am to start at 10am. Courses at 4pm.
