The course will examine violent religious texts, and offer approaches to using them as a resource for understanding violence and conflict in our time. We will see how Jewish and Christian traditions have inspired heroic peace-making, with an emphasis on the figures and communities involved and how they responded to the challenges of dark and fearful situations.
