> > Embracing Difference

Embracing Difference: Using respectful curiosity to engage with others through developing cultural confidence and competence.

This day will enrich your understanding of ‘cultural confidence and competence’ through exploring our attitudes, values, bias and assumptions. We will create a safe and comfortable space for the exploration of our understanding of the words: culture, tradition, custom, diversity, equalities, ritual, celebration, faith, ethnicity and difference.

This course will be learner centred and participative, encouraging self-reflection, gentle challenge and will always be respectful of each other, our differing opinions/beliefs and the issues discussed. You will be inspired and empowered to work with difference in your everyday life as well as organisationally. You will move gently and quietly through any unconscious bias (we all have some!) to recognition of how our personal histories, environment and the media can influence our assumptions about ‘others’ and how our own personal belief system can result in unhelpful responses and giving unfortunate ‘messages’. Each learner will be welcomed into the group and discover that difference is in fact ‘normal’. You will leave the course with new skills, understanding and knowledge to embrace difference with confidence and competence.
