Jacobean Crewelwork, Traditional Hand Embroidery

Clare Clensy trained on a three year apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework and has been teaching hand embroidery for more than fifteen years, gaining much experience and a wealth of stitching knowledge. She is the author of ‘A Beginners Guide to Silk Shading’ and has written many magazine articles. She has also designed her own range of embroidery kits which cover most traditional hand embroidery techniques.

This course will give you the opportunity to try your hand at Jacobean Crewelwork. This is an historical embroidery technique using crewel wool on linen twill. The designs are based on stylised mythical plants, pods and animals.

During the course you will learn how to stitch a traditional motif using a variety of hand embroidery stitches, such as long and short shading, grid fillings, French knots and many other stitches. You can either bring your own crewel work projects along to work on or purchase a kit from Clare when at Ammerdown. There will be a variety of designs to choose from, with costs ranging from £15.50 to £24.50.

This course is suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers alike.

Maximum number 12, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
