Jesus and the Jews

It is now generally understood that Jesus was and always remained an observant Jew. From the New Testament we learn that he was trained in the Law’s observance and had respect for it, and that the rhythm of his life was marked by observance of the Jewish festivals, such as Passover, Succoth and the Sabbath.

The first part of this session will give guidance on how to read problematic texts in the New Testament. The second part will deal with prayers Jesus would have said as a faithful Jew, which formed his consciousness of himself as a son of God. Together we will study biblical and midrashic texts amplified with film, poetry and song.
