Make Your Own Artist Trading Card

Artists Trading Cards (ATCs) are postcard-sized pieces of work that can easily be finished in a day and are sent to other artists or friends in the post. All types of artists are starting to use them, so these small pieces are suitable for calligraphers, printers, collage artists, painters, sketchers, embroiderers, patchworkers, weavers, knitters and those who love crochet.

The morning will cover the use of transfer dyes, which can be painted, printed or sponged onto paper before being heat transferred onto Pelmet Vilene, a stiff non-woven material resembling card.

In the afternoon any combination of lettering, paint, print, paper and textiles can be added to this base, giving you a lovely gift to send to a loved one or friend - a very personal memento!

In the professional and semi-professional world Artist Trading Cards made by well-known artists are highly sought after and people are starting to become collectors. So ATCs could well become the ‘samplers’ for future generations to admire and say ‘my great-grandparent made that at the start of the twenty first century!’.

Course Tutor Barbara Butler has been a University of the Third Age tutor teaching the Creative Embroidery Course since 2001. She has been a member of Bath Guild of Embroiderers since 1980 and a life member of the Embroiderers Guild since 1986. She has been running courses locally for both adults and children for several years.
