Mindfulness Meditation

Suitable for Mindfulness Meditation beginners, and a ‘refresher’ for those more experienced.

Hilary Armstrong has studied with many distinguished meditation teachers, especially at Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Scotland. She has trained in mindfulness-based therapy with both Oxford University and Exeter University Mindfulness Centres, and has been running regular courses and retreats in the West Country since 2007. Meditation and Mindfulness chime in very well with her passion for opera and with her involvement in community theatre as an actor and director.

MIndfulness Meditation: A Taster Day

9.30am for 10am until 4pm. Includes coffee, lunch and afternoon tea.

This one-day workshop is designed for beginners. Over thirty years ago, Jon Kabat-Zinn,inspired by his own practice of Buddhist meditation, developed a secular programme of Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Research quickly revealed its benefits in reducing stress and anxiety. The programme is now used therapeutically in almost every part of our society.

Entirely relevant to everyday life, this workshop is a perfect introduction for anyone dealing with change, difficulty, stress, or for the simply curious. We will have short periods of silent meditation, with different meditation supports, beginning with the breath. We learn to step back from busyness, social media, and over-thinking; we allow the busy mind to settle, and practise being fully present in the moment – which will hopefully mean feeling freer and fully alive!

No need to sit on the floor, but please wear loose clothing and warm socks.

A Weekend Mindfulness Meditation Retreat

Please arrive by 6pm on Friday. Course ends with lunch on Sunday.

Give yourself a digital de-tox and a break from routine! This will be a relaxing weekend in which you will be introduced to and practise Mindfulness techniques together with basic Meditation instruction. You will work with the breath and the body, and learn to step back from the busy, thinking, managing mind. Above all, it will be an opportunity to gain some perspective on life and to re-assess priorities.
