Poetry, Prayer and Silence

Does poetry make your heart sing? Do you feel more and more drawn towards silence? Do you long to pray and meditate more creatively? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘Yes’, then this course is for you.

It will be led by experienced teacher, retreat leader, life coach and spiritual director Sue Glanville. Sue has a passion for poetry and contemplative prayer and also loves to encourage people to pray more creatively. She writes: “We will be reading and discussing a number of poems with a view to being challenged, to grow more aware, and to experience that deep sense of resonance about our own spiritual life journeys. We will draw on a treasury of poems by Mary Oliver, R.S. Thomas, Jon O' Donohue, T.S Eliot, and others that you yourself would like to share. We will also write our own haikus. Sit and walk in silence together. Experiment with prayer and meditation. Use the poems to inspire us to paint, write, maybe even dance!”

There will also be an opportunity for one-to-one sessions with Sue for those who wish to do so.

Sue has previously led retreats at Ammerdown on topics such as ‘Positive Thinking’, ‘Coming to terms with Loss and Change’ and ‘Gratitude and Optimism’. She particularly likes St Irenaeus’ statement: “The glory of God is a human being fully alive.”
