Returning Jesus to his Jewish Context

Supersessionism asserts that the new covenant through Jesus Christ supersedes the Mosaic Covenant of God.  Interpretations of such texts have led to disastrous results for the Jews. Since Pope John Paul’s statement that “the covenant of God with the Jewish People has never been revoked,” and the publication of “Nostra Aetate,” many search for ways to reinterpret the New Testament, including returning Jesus to his Jewish context. After examining some problematic texts in the Gospels, Sr Maureena will speak of Jesus the Jew as a model example, to become a messiah, a prophet, the Word of God. The sessions will be enriched with poetry, song and film.
