“A superb raconteur and thought-provoking scripture scholar, Fr Denis McBride breaks open the Gospels in fresh and startling ways”, writes The Tablet.
This has certainly been our experience at Ammerdown whenever Fr Denis has run a course here. The feedback speaks for itself: “Excellent communication, great sense of humour, superb teaching”; “Had the grace to share his immense gifts and insights of the gospels and the person of Jesus with us”. No wonder we ask him back every year!
This year, Fr Denis will help us prepare for Advent. He writes: “Most of us live in a culture of immediacy where there is little tolerance for waiting, so there can be mounting rage in the face of delays and setbacks. Some will act out their frustration and anger when what they want is not available instantly. This weekend, we will be counter-cultural and take time out to prepare for the lovely season of Advent. We will look at great biblical witnesses who teach us to wait for God - Abraham and Sarah, Elisabeth and Zechariah, Mary and Joseph, Simeon and Anna. And we will ask: ‘What funded their ability to wait for the fulfilment of God's promises? What do they teach us today?’.”
Fr Denis McBride, a Redemptorist priest from Scotland, is presently Director of Redemptorist Publications. Well-known as a lecturer and a writer, he has published fifteen books. His speciality is in communicating the beauty and depth of the Gospels, which he has done all over the world.
