Wild Weaving Workshop

Weaver and experienced art tutor Jess Tanner held this holistic and hands-on workshop at Ammerdown for the first time last year, and her ‘pupils’ absolutely loved it – beginners and experienced weavers alike! The weather allowed for time to be spent outdoors weaving in the beautiful and tranquil grounds of Ammerdown, and some beautiful work was created on the day.

The 2017 workshop will follow the same format: working with traditional back-strap looms, you will take part in, and have creative control over each aspect of the weaving process, from warp design, warp winding and loom threading, to the weaving itself. You will be working towards creating natural landscapes informed by the surrounding environment, and explore the possibilities of a diverse range of weft materials, textures and colors. You will be encouraged to work intuitively with the materials that you are drawn to work with so as to create a unique piece of textile art. Weather permitting, some of the work will take place outdoors, in the lovely grounds of Ammerdown.

Jess is a Wiltshire-based environmental artist and outdoors educator based near Bath who is passionate about promoting the immersive and therapeutic qualities of art and craft making.
