Zazenkai- Zen Gifts

“Zazen practice is the direct expression of our true nature.”  (Shunryu Suzuki)

Zazenkai is a silent day of Zen practice which includes sitting meditation (zazen) interspersed with walking meditation (kinhin). The day is a practice of attentiveness to the breath which, together with the stillness of the body, helps to free the mind from its ordinary mental activities and offers an insight into the oneness of life. Practice leads to an awareness which we can carry into the rest of our everyday life with all its challenges and changing circumstances.

Zen is a gift which can deepen the contemplative experience for Christians and for those from any faith or tradition.

Ammerdown’s Zazenkai days are facilitated by Mark Scholefield, a longstanding Zen practitioner. They are a good introduction for those new to Zen practice as well as helpful preparation for a sesshin – a longer Zen retreat.

Zazenkai will also be held at Ammerdown on 20 September (optional extension to 21) and 29 November. Our Zen sesshin, a residential retreat led by Fr Robert Kennedy Roshi, is from 17 to 22 May.

* Cost:

Zazenkai (Saturday only):  £40

Short Retreat (Saturday and Sunday):  £165

Led by: Mark Scholefield

9.15am onwards for 10am.  For those new to Zen, there is an introduction at 9.30am.
