Zazenkai 2018

‘Be Still and Know!’ These are the opening words from an ancient Hebrew Psalm, but these few words also sum up nicely what this Zazenkai is all about. The whole day is suitable for beginners and those more experienced, and it will be spent largely in silence with most of the day spent just sitting still. It is in this stillness that we will discover for ourselves our true inner nature beyond the compulsions of our discriminating mind that wants us to achieve our identity by what we have, what we do or what other people think of us. The practice of silent sitting is taken from the Zen Buddhist tradition, which goes back over 2000 years and is a tried and tested door to discovering that we are all part of one reality and we already have all we ever need. It is there, within us, and nothing worthwhile comes from outside. To really experience, this is truly a liberation enabling us to live life to the full.

The day will be led by Fr. Patrick Eastman Roshi, the founder and leader of the Wild Goose Zen Sangha, who is both a Roman Catholic priest and a Zen master, i.e. one of its authorised teachers.

N.B. This is a silent retreat

There will be another day later in the year on 22 September

Led by: Fr Patrick Eastman Roshi

9.30am for 10am until 4pm. Retreat includes coffee, lunch and afternoon tea.
