Practising Hospitality in a Hostile Environment

Bi-monthly dinner at Ammerdown with a speaker on the theme of Ammerdown's Core Values.

Assuming we mean more than just putting the kettle on or having friends over for dinner, what exactly do we mean by “hospitality” and what role does it play in a faithful, ethical life?

This day’s workshop and discussions will look at the theology of hospitality and focus on biblical, historical, and contemporary examples of its practice and will be an opportunity to explore, interrogate, complicate, deconstruct, and re-define what we mean when we talk about welcoming the other. This session will encourage practical application, especially to those involved in interfaith dialogue, immigration, community development, peace and reconciliation, and/or political approaches to theology and ethics.

Practising Hospitality in a Hostile Environment

Led by: Dr Jayme Reaves

Bi-monthly dinners at Ammerdown with a speaker on the theme of Ammerdown’s Core Values: Hospitality Peace and Reconciliation. 7-9pm, includes two course meal, tea and coffee, bar available.

Dr Jayme R. Reaves is a Public Theologian working with communities and individuals at the intersection of theology, peace and social justice in the US, UK, former Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland. She defines Public Theology as where belief about God intersects with politics, gender, race, sexuality, environment, and culture issues. As such, this particular method of ‘doing theology’ becomes a conversation about how we apply theology to our lives and how that application impacts the way we live in the world.
